Two teenage boys have been killed on a railway line in Cheshire, police have said.
British Transport Police (BTP) officers and paramedics were called to Poynton railway station at about 22:10 BST on Thursday to reports of a casualty on the tracks.
Two boys, both 16, were found and pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner,” a BTP spokesman said.
Local MP Tim Roca, whose Macclesfield constituency includes Poynton, posted on Facebook: “Devastating news from Poynton, where two teenage boys tragically lost their lives on the railway last night.
“My heart goes out to their families, friends, and all those affected.
“Thank you to the emergency services who responded.
“I know this tragedy will be felt deeply across the community.”
