A popular ice cream brand has been recalled in more than a dozen states over a risk of “metal foreign material” in the packages.

With scoop season on the way, Americans should be aware of the potential dangers to their favorite frozen treats.

California-based Straus Family Creamery recalled select flavors of its organic ice cream Thursday “due to the potential presence of metal foreign material,” according to a company notice.

The company recalled flavors, including Dutch Chocolate, Vanilla Bean and Strawberry, “out of an abundance of caution.”

No injuries were reported to the company as of Thursday.

Seventeen states are affected by the recall, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin.

“Food safety and product quality remain top priorities for Straus Family Creamery,” the company said in a statement.

“The company is taking this action out of an abundance of caution and has implemented appropriate corrective actions,” the statement continued.
