A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of Missouri football star Ahmad Hardy at a rap concert in Mississippi last weekend.

Rashodrick Harris of Wayne County, Mississippi, was taken into custody in Paducah, Kentucky, on Thursday night and was awaiting extradition, Sgt. Macon Davis of the Laurel Police Department said.

Hardy, an All-American running back for the Missouri Tigers, was shot in the upper leg Sunday while attending the concert at a biker club in Laurel, about 90 minutes away from his hometown of Oma. At least one other person was injured.

The Tigers player underwent surgery in Mississippi and returned to Columbia, Missouri, on Wednesday.

Harris will be charged with two counts of aggravated assault, Davis said, but the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are still possible.

Three other people of interest who were taken into custody have been released with no charges, Davis added.

Hardy has since been discharged from the hospital and hopes to play football this season

Laurel police used security video to identify Harris as a suspect, and an arrest warrant was issued after an interview with a witness. Davis said he didn’t know why he was in Paducah, which is a seven-hour drive from Laurel.

According to The Kansas City Star, police believe a crowd had formed in the parking lot after the rap concert at Kamakazy Biker Club when gunfire suddenly ‘erupted.’

Hardy was said to be a passenger in a vehicle aiming to exit the scene when he was shot, Davis claimed.

The latter, who described the scene as ‘mass chaos’ due to several vehicles trying to leave at once, said: ‘As I understand it, Mr. Hardy was already inside a vehicle trying to get off of the property, and was shot while in the car, which was very unfortunate for him.’

The early stages of the police investigation suggest Hardy was not involved in the events that led to the shooting after the concert.

Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz has revealed that Hardy’s status for this season is now uncertain following the shooting.

He ran for 1,649 yards – second in the FBS – and scored 16 touchdowns in helping the Tigers go 8-5 with a loss to Virginia in the Gator Bowl.

Hardy, who is from Oma, established himself as one of the best rushers in the SEC in 2025

Several NFL mock drafts already list the 5-foot-10, 205-pound Hardy as the No. 1 running back available next April.

Mizzou Athletics released a statement Monday morning announcing that Hardy is stable after his surgery, while saying it’s too early to speculate over a timeline for him to return to football.

‘Ahmad is deeply loved by his teammates, coaches, family and friends,’ the statement added.

‘We will continue to stand beside him and his family through this difficult time, offering our love, prayers, strength and support.’
