French police detained a man who had attacked people with a knife in Paris on Monday, Interior Minister Laurent Nunez told reporters.
The man had attacked three women with two kitchen knives, he added. Two of the three women are severely wounded.
The minister said the man had been detained by a police officer off-duty.
