Pizza products sold at Walmart, Costco and more have been recalled due to a potential contamination with salmonella, which causes food poisoning.
According to a Friday notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, certain batches of Champion Foods LLC’s Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread contained a dry milk powder that California Dairies, Inc. recalled in April due to potential salmonella contamination.
“The recalled milk powder was supplied to a third-party manufacturer that provides a seasoning blend used in our 5 cheese sauce blend,” Champion Foods said in the FDA announcement. “Routine testing conducted by the seasonings blend manufacturer prior to use in the production of the 5 Cheese Bread showed that the seasonings batches tested negative for Salmonella.”
The recall includes Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread Single Pack, with the UPC Code 8 70375 00511 1, and Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread 2 Pack, with the UPC 8 70375 00509 8. They both have Sell By Dates between February 3, 2027, and April 21, 2027, located on the front of the box.
The affected 5 Cheese Bread lots were sold nationwide at many major retailers, including Walmart, Giant Landover, Grocery Outlet, Jewel, Kroger, Schnucks, Target, C&S, Bozzuto’s, Brookshire Grocery, Meijer, Food City, KeHe, Lipari, Publix, Merchants Dis Hickory, PDI/Hy-Vee, River Valley, SpartanNash, Supervalu and UNFI.
At Costco, the item — which can be identified by the number 1453434 — was sold between February 6, 2026, and May 29, 2026, according to a letter sent to members.
Although there haven’t been any illnesses reported to date, Champion Foods LLC said it was issuing the recall “out of an abundance of caution for the safety of [its] customers.”
Consumers with one of the affected cheese breads are urged to contact Champion Foods LLC at [email protected] for more information. Costco members can also return the item to their local stores for a refund.
People with salmonella infections can develop symptoms within 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food, according to the FDA. Symptoms — which last from four to seven days and usually go away without treatment — can include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps. However, salmonella can “cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” the FDA notes.
The cheese bread wasn’t the only product that contained the recently recalled dry milk powder. Last month, certain lots of Blackstone Parmesan Ranch seasoning, sold through the company’s website and Walmart stores nationwide, were recalled because they contained the dairy-based ingredient.
