Oneil Cruz has broken his own MLB record to smash a new hardest-hit ball in baseball history – a 122.9mph rocket of a home run.
The Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder already previously held the record – a 122.5mph single back in August 2022, but he has now beaten his old mark by 0.4mph.
Perhaps more enjoyable for Cruz this time around was that he sent this effort out of the ballpark, way over the railings for a 432 foot home run off Logan Henderson.
The StatCast era began in 2015, and Cruz has dominated the record books since his arrival in the big leagues in 2021.
He took Giancarlo Stanton’s hardest-hit record in 2022, and has now taken it again in 2025.
Earlier this week, Cruz had his first multi-home run game in the major leagues, going deep twice to help Pittsburgh to a 6-5 win in extra innings.

At 6-foot-7 and 215 pounds, he is unusually big for a shortstop, where he was the tallest ever at 6-foot-7, before converting to the outfield this season.
Sunday’s home run against the Milwaukee Brewers was Cruz’s 11th of the year, and helped a stuttering offense get back into the game in Pittsburgh.
Clips of the remarkable home run quickly went viral on social media, with fans unable to believe their eyes.
