A penthouse with a private terrace overlooking Lord’s is set to come to market for the first time – with all proceeds going to a charitable trust.
The Lord’s View Penthouse is the only privately owned residence with a direct view over the St John’s Wood ground, and comes with a 100-foot private terrace.
The property is being offered for sale via a confidential sealed bid process, which closes on 31 July. All proceeds will go to a registered charity established by the late owner, Laurence Silman, and his wife Nancy, with a portion directed to a cricket charity.
“Laurence saw something in that unfinished rooftop that nobody else did: a place to bring together the people he loved, around the game he loved,” the late owner’s brother, Robert Silman, said on behalf of the family.
“The terrace became the backdrop to decades of summers measured out in Test matches and ODIs; releasing it now feels like the right moment. The charitable element was important to us: it felt right that something built around a love of cricket should give something back to the game.”
The late Silman was a life member of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), who own and operate Lord’s.
He conceived the property next to the home of English cricket after acquiring the unfinished upper level from a bankrupt developer.
