Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has tipped Arsenal to suffer a double heartbreak in the end-of-season run-in by missing out on both the Premier League and Champions League titles.
The Gunners are top of England’s top flight and in the semi-finals of Europe’s premier competition with high hopes of winning a double – including a victory that would see them win the Champions League for the first time.
Mikel Arteta’s side have also not won the Premier League in 22 years, and have been favourites to end that drought after leading the table for almost all of the campaign.
But, in recent weeks, they have seen their lead slip, culminating in a defeat that saw them lose 2-1 against direct rivals Manchester City.
Now, the two teams are neck and neck with Arsenal three points ahead, but having played a game more.
Results have resulted in a hard-fought title race with fans and pundits split on who they think will claim the title – and Paul Scholes is siding with City.
Paul Scholes has tipped Arsenal for double heartbreak in his end-of-season predictions

The Gunners are top of the Premier League but have blown their lead over Manchester City
Speaking to Sky Bet when asked to give his predictions for the run-in, Scholes paused after being asked about the Premier League, before suggesting his former rivals City would claim the title.
Such a result would be a hammer blow to an Arsenal side who have come second in the last three seasons in their desperate attempts to claim glory.
But that’s not all. Scholes also suggested Paris Saint-Germain will win the Champions League for a second season in a row, which would mean the Gunners missing out in that competition too.
Arsenal are favourites to reach the final from their side of the draw, having drawn 1-1 with LaLiga side Atletico Madrid this week away from home.
PSG, meanwhile, are 5-4 up from their first leg against Bayern Munich, though face a tough trip to Germany next week.
City were also tipped to win the FA Cup by Scholes. They will take on Chelsea in the final on May 16, with Pep Guardiola’s men heavy favourites to claim the crown.
Arsenal had initially held out hope of a quadruple, but lost the Carabao Cup final against City in March, and suffered a shock defeat by Southampton in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
Finally, Scholes was asked to pick his bottom three in the Premier League. The relegation of Wolves and Burnley has already been confirmed, and he suggested Tottenham will join them.
Scholes also picked out Tottenham as the final team that will be relegated to the Championship
Spurs currently occupy 18th in the Premier League standings – the final relegation spot – trailing West Ham by two points.
Both the Hammers and Spurs have four games remaining, but Roberto De Zerbi’s side will gain heart from the fact they won for the first time this year when they beat Wolves last week.
Nottingham Forest and Leeds could still go down too, but appear to be all but safe.
