Paul Scholes has claimed that Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim ‘doesn’t like his team’ following the Red Devils’ 2-2 draw against Lyon.
Amorim’s side looked to be heading for a vital win after a late goal from Joshua Zirkzee only for goalkeeper Andre Onana to gift the home team an equaliser with the last kick of the contest.
In attempting to gather Georges Mikautadze’s shot, Onana spilled the attempt, allowinmg Rayan Cherki to tap home the rebound.
Speaking after the encounter for TNT Sports, Scholes responded to Jules Breach, who asked if he was in agreement with Amorim’s assessment that his team were improving with each game.
Scholes said: ‘I don’t think [Amorim] believes it. I don’t think he likes his team, I think he knows he hasn’t got a great football team and I think he wants better, he needs better’.
‘I think you can see that in the way he [behaves] on the touchline, he always looks disappointed to me. The way he is speaking tells me his is disappointed with what he has got.’

Speaking on TNT Sports, Scholes added:'[Amorim] always looks disappointed to me’
‘The impression I get is that this team is nowhere near the standard that he wants’.
Prior to Scholes’ comments, Amorim had urged his team to look forward to the second leg.
The Portuguese said: ‘We are really disappointed we should have taken the one goal advantage but the next goal is in our home and we will try and win it
‘We continue to do the same thing, training and the games to choose the best XI.
‘We did well in the first half, some difficulties pressing the opponent but we adapted to control the game, we were in the box, we did well but we can do better.
‘We are improving game by game but we need to be more clinical, it is two games and we have to think of the next one.’
Amorim also defended the performance of Onana, adding: ‘It is important to focus on the next game for the league and then think about the second leg when one players has a mistake all the team has a mistake so we continue like that.’

Onana’s error-strewn showing leaves the tie fascinatingly poised ahead of the return fixture
Scholes added: ‘Everyone knows he needs better if he is going to challenge and take Manchester United to where they want to be.
‘He can be quite pleased defensively but that’s taken away the goal threat they should and [impacted] their quality all round the pitch’.
Despite the frustration of conceding a last-gasp equaliser, a draw is far from a bad result for Amorim and his team, who will have home advantage in the second leg.
However, Onana’s error-strewn showing leaves the tie fascinatingly poised ahead of the return fixture at Old Trafford, which takes place on Thursday April 17.
