Patrick Mahomes’ Super Bowl preparations have been disrupted by his beloved Dallas Mavericks sending their star man Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in one of the most seismic trades in NBA history.
The bombshell news broke late Saturday night to a sports world that could hardly believe it, with Mahomes no different to anyone else.
Mahomes took to X in disbelief, tweeting: ‘Wait what?’
The Chiefs star wrote in another post: ‘I’m sick rn (right now)…’.
Mahomes and his Chiefs team fly to New Orleans on Sunday ahead of next weekend’s Super Bowl against Philadelphia Eagles.
The Lakers are sending Anthony Davis, a 2029 first-round pick and Max Christie to the Mavericks, in exchange for Doncic, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris.

The Jazz are also receiving Jalen Hood-Schifino from the Lakers, a Mavericks 2025 second-round pick and a 2025 Clippers second-rounder from the Lakers.
The 25-year-old Doncic hasn’t played since Christmas Day after exiting his team’s game against the Timberwolves with a calf strain.
And the move for Doncic suggests that the Lakers are ushering in a new era with Doncic surely in line to lead the team whenever LeBron James, 40, retires.
According to ESPN, James had no idea that the trade was in the works.
The Lakers star, who scored 33 points at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night as his team beat the Knicks 128-112,
But he apparently learned about the deal while he was out to dinner with his family after the Knicks win.
‘James was surprised by the news, is processing it and had no idea it was in the works,’ ESPN reporter Dave McMenamin said on X early on Sunday morning.
Mahomes, meanwhile, is a huge Mavericks fan and gets to games whenever he can. He has sat courtside with Travis Kelce and wife Brittany before.
