Patrick Mahomes was inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame on Saturday night – before his wife, Brittany, helped him unveil a big announcement.
The three-time MVP played for Texas’ Whitehouse High School long before he was known as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
And as he spoke at a ceremony in Waco, Texas, Mahomes made it clear how important his high school days were to his career path.
‘When you go around the league, all I brag about is Texas high school football and how much it means,’ Mahomes said, via KRQE News.
‘People talk about the players that come out of different states but they don’t know how much it means to be in Texas high school football and I think it’s a special place to be at.’
Mahomes – who called football his ‘last sport’ after spending much of his childhood playing baseball and basketball – admitted he ‘never thought’ he would make it to the pros.

Mahomes, who played for Whitehouse High School, spoke about Texas football culture
‘My goal growing up was to win a district championship in Whitehouse, Texas,’ he said.
The quarterback, 29, also announced during his speech that he and Adidas were partnering to create custom jerseys for 15 different high schools around the country.
Of course, that list included his old school Whitehouse, and Brittany handed him one of the new jerseys as he was onstage.
Mahomes was one of nine inductees from this year’s class, which also included 2013 NFL Rookie of the Year Robert Griffin III.
Griffin starred in high school at Copperas Cove before going on to play collegiately at Baylor.
Mahomes, meanwhile, also stayed in Texas during college as he played for Texas Tech.

Since Kansas City’s crushing Super Bowl defeat against the Eagles, Mahomes has been enjoying some well-deserved time off.
Last weekend, he and Brittany were in Florida for the Miami Grand Prix, as he cheered on the Alpine team that he is a co-owner of.
Mahomes was even seen partying with Tom Brady as he introduced the legendary passer to his wife.
The Chiefs star will be expected back at the team’s facilities later this month for OTAs, which begin on May 27.
