  • Decision ensures legendary coach’s legacy lives on

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have become the first Australian football club to ‘clone’ a key figure in the game.

Club supremo Phil Gould has lifted the lid on how club powerbrokers have produced an AI version of him, to ensure his knowledge lives on.

Canterbury’s current general manager of football has crafted a legacy as one of the game’s best coaches.

The club has turned to the Claude AI platform to ensure his wealth of experience and knowledge will be utilised for generations to come.

‘Our chairman at the Bulldogs (Adam Driussi) used to run a data company, he now runs an AI company,’ Gould told the Hello Sport Podcast.

‘And we use AI, he is teaching us AI … we use a platform called Claude which is designed for us at the Bulldogs.

‘He (Driussi) has actually created a virtual me,’ Gould continued.

‘He has got me to answer all these questions over a long period of time.

‘It has gone into Claude and it goes into my background, any column I have written, any speech I have ever given, anything I have ever done.

‘Claude remembers anything we have spoken about and pre-empts what I’m about to ask.

‘Claude is learning more about me and the way we do our business.

‘In 50 years’ time, if someone (at the Bulldogs) needs to know what I would do in a situation, they can just ask Claude.’

The Claude AI software was founded by former OpenAI employees, Dario Amodei and Daniela Amodei.

It has become incredibly popular, with 30 million active users worldwide.

After a long playing career, Gould took the Dogs and Panthers to premierships as head coach, and also enjoyed incredible success in State of Origin with NSW.

He is seen as one of the architects of Penrith’s incredible run of grand final success after transforming the club as general manager.
