Logan Wilson has announced he is calling it a career at the age of 29, one month after being released by the Dallas Cowboys.

The linebacker spent half a season in Dallas after being traded by the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round Draft pick in November.

Prior to the trade, Wilson had been in Cincinnati for the entirety of his NFL career, which began when they selected him with the 65th overall pick in the third round of the 2020 Draft.

Following his Cowboys exit last month, he took to Instagram on Wednesday and wrote in an emotional post: ‘After a lot of thought and prayer, I’ve decided to officially retire from the NFL.

‘From being a Wyoming kid with big dreams to hearing my name called in the 3rd round of the 2020 Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals… football gave me more than I ever could have imagined.’

Wilson started a total of 65 games over the course of his five-and-a-half years in Cincinnati, making 541 tackles and 11 interceptions along the way.

He also played an integral role in the Bengals’ run to Super Bowl LVI, where they were beaten by the Los Angeles Rams.

‘Cincinnati will always mean a lot to me,’ the former Wyoming star continued. ‘The teammates, coaches, staff, and fans made those years unforgettable.

‘That 2021 playoff run was something special – the interception in Tennessee to send us to the AFC Championship, beating Kansas City to win the AFC, and taking the field in the Super Bowl. Those moments and that locker room are something I’ll carry with me forever.

‘And the best part of all, my daughter was born there.’

Logan and his wife, Morgan, welcomed their first and only child, daughter Kambry James, back in March 2024.

The couple tied the knot two years earlier in Colorado, after getting engaged in 2021.

After being voted a Bengals captain in 2025, Wilson was benched during that season and replaced by rookie Barrett Carter, which eventually led to his trade to Dallas.

In seven games with the Cowboys he started on just one occasion while registering 28 tackles and a forced fumble.

Despite the team’s defensive struggles, head coach Brian Schottenheimer opted to keep Kenneth Murray Jr. over him as starter. Wilson was therefore waived by Dallas on February 20.

In the rest of his retirement post, Wilson said he is ‘also thankful for the opportunity to finish this season in Dallas and for the way that locker room welcomed me in.’

‘When I look back on my career, I just feel grateful,’ he concluded. ‘Not many Wyoming kids get the chance to live out their dream in the NFL, and I never took a single snap for granted.’

‘Now I’m excited for what’s ahead – more time with family, new fitness challenges, and the next chapter of life,’ Wilson added.

‘Thank you to every teammate, coach, trainer, staff member, and fan who was part of the journey. And to Cincinnati… I’ll always appreciate the way you embraced me.’
