The New York Yankees might need help in the bullpen, but they’ve added another hitter to their lineup before Wednesday’s trade deadline.
They’ve traded for outfielder Austin Slater at the Chicago White Sox, who will receive minor league pitcher Gage Ziehl in return.
Slater is the third addition to Aaron Boone’s team in recent days – Ryan McMahon arrived from the Colorado Rockies as a much-needed third baseman, while infielder Amed Rosario was an addition from Washington Nationals.
A disastrous couple of months has seen the Yankees slide into second place in the American League East.
They beat the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night but are four games behind Toronto Blue Jays, who lead the standings.
