The New York Jets are reportedly on the verge of signing kicker Younghoe Koo – five months after he was released by the Giants over a disastrous field goal attempt that went viral.

Koo, who remains one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history, suffered a calamitous error during a Monday Night Football game against the New England Patriots back in December.

The 31-year-old infamously kicked the floor instead of the ball in a 33-15 loss for the Giants at MetLife Stadium, a gaffe which ultimately cost him his job when he was cut shortly after.

But according to Connor Hughes of SNYtv, Koo will be kicking at MetLife again this coming season as he prepares to sign with city rivals the Jets.

Despite participating in rookie minicamp with the team, the New Orleans Saints opted not to sign the 2020 Pro Bowler, leaving Aaron Glenn’s New York free to snap him up.

However, following his high-profile mistake and Giants departure, long-suffering Jets fans are far from happy with the move.

One reacted to the news of Koo’s arrival by writing on X: ‘Am I supposed to be happy about this?’

‘The guy that kicked the ground instead of the ball? Vintage jets signing,’ another fan concluded.

‘I’ve never seen anyone stick their foot into the turf like he did last season…. Wild,’ said a third.

A fourth put: ‘As if we aren’t bad enough????’

While one asked sarcastically: ‘What could go wrong’.

Koo previously spent seven seasons with the Atlanta Falcons before being released in 2025 after missing a game-tying field goal at the end of a Week 1 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He then appeared in five games with the Giants later in the year, only to suffer humiliation at MetLife and then get cut once again.

Throughout the 2025 campaign for both franchises Koo went 6-of-9 on field goals and 13-of-14 on extra points.

In his career, he is 185-of-217 on field goals and 186-of-194 on extra points.

The Jets, who missed the playoffs for an unfathomable 15th straight year in 2025, already have kickers Cade York and Lenny Krieg on their roster.
