Based in the newly refurbished Millom Library building, the hub will offer agile working for people working in the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) group, including Sellafield Ltd.

It will also deliver benefits to the town and local community by bringing a well-known building back into use, increasing activity in the town centre, and helping to reduce traffic on the A595.

First conceived in 2020, the hub project links to the Millom Town Deal aimed at boosting local growth and investment.

MP for Barrow and Furness Michelle Scrogham visited the site recently and met with representatives from the NDA and Sellafield Ltd to hear more about what the hub will offer the area. She said

I’m really pleased to be able to share progress on the redevelopment of the Old Library building.

It’s fantastic to see another important landmark in Millom town centre being brought back into use.

And this is about more than just office space; the hub will benefit Millom town centre and support local jobs and economic development in Millom and Haverigg.

Euan Hutton, CEO of Sellafield Ltd said

We’re proud to support the development of a fantastic asset for Millom and a great new future for the old library building.

Sellafield workers have championed this idea for a long time so it’s great to be taking a step closer to delivering a modern and flexible workplace for them that will benefit the local community.

Fit out of the offices is expected to begin in the next financial year following finalisation of the design, tender and follow on award of the construction contract.

The project will be led by the NDA Property Team in conjunction with Avison Young with support from Sellafield Ltd.
