- Nine star and Liam Knight got engaged last year
Nine star Danika Mason’s fiancé Liam Knight has been thrown a footy lifeline – and his rumoured link to a new team means he doesn’t have to tear himself away from the Channel Nine star again.
Mason and Knight got engaged last October after the 31-year-old popped the question while they holidayed in Italy.
Mason and her man were forced to conduct a long-distance relationship for most of their romance as he played for Hull FC in Britain’s Super League competition.
However, he was released from his contract in February so he could return to Australia on compassionate grounds.
Knight has now signed on with the Cessnock Goannas to play in the local Newcastle footy competition, according to a report from News Corp.
That would mean a long but doable commute to work from Mason’s Maroubra townhouse.

Knight would be arguably the biggest name in the Cessnock side, which competes in the 10-team Denton Engineering Cup.
The club is in dire need of star power, having suffered a 12-40 round-one loss to South Newcastle on Saturday.
The 31-year-old could still be a chance of getting a start with an NRL club, as well.
The powerful forward’s last stint in first grade saw him play just seven matches for the Bulldogs as he was badly hampered by injury.
But he proved he is a valuable forward as he racked up 66 matches with Souths from 2019 to 2023.
Knight’s return Down Under comes as Mason continues to move on from the drinking drama that made headlines around the world as she covered the Winter Olympics.
The Nine star slurred and stumbled her way through a live cross from Italy, sparking uproar on social media.
Today hosts Karl Stefanovic and Jayne Azzopardi suggested the cold weather made it difficult for her to speak, but Mason won praise when she admitted she’d been drinking in an on-air apology.

‘Guys, just before we do go, I just want to take a moment if that’s okay, just to apologise,’ she began.
‘I also wanted to say thank you for everyone who has reached out. I’m okay. Probably just a little bit embarrassed.
‘But I want to take full responsibility. It’s not the standard that I set for myself.’
The Daily Mail has contacted the Cessnock Goannas for comment.
