Injured Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton revealed the cause behind his shocking weight gain that had NBA fans concerned for his health.

After the team posted a photo of Haliburton on social media over the weekend, there was plenty of concern for the well-being of the star who hasn’t played all year due to a torn Achilles tendon.

But while some may have thought that time on the couch and away from the court was the cause, Haliburton revealed it was a much more serious condition.

In an appearance on ‘The Pat McAfee Show,’ Haliburton revealed he’s been dealing with a bout of shingles for about eight weeks – and that the medication he’s taken has led to serious hunger pangs.

‘I’ve switched my meds like three times and I’ve got a Botox injection,’ said Haliburton, who added that his face has been impacted the most.

‘None of it has helped. And the new meds, a side of effect of the meds is that I’m always hungry and weight gain. So, it’s making me gain weight.’

Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton said his weight gain was a side effect of medication he was taking to combat a bout of shingles that he had been fighting for months

Haliburton was mocked for his appearance prior to the cause of his affliction being revealed. One remark that stuck with the guard was when he was called ‘Tyrese Haliburger.’

‘They’re killing me on social media,’ Haliburton told McAfee.

In spite of the cruel-spirited nature of the comments, Haliburton appeared to take everything in stride – as evidenced by a large grin he had while speaking to McAfee.

Things have gotten better for Haliburton, who has his eye swollen for most of the past two months. The guard even admitted that he even ‘lost part of my eyebrow.’

‘It’s been trash,’ he said. ‘It’s been trash.’

As for his recovery from surgery, Haliburton is back to working out again and participating in 5-on-5 training sessions.

The Pacers’ season is now over, meaning Haliburton will have plenty of time to heal and recover.
