The future of point guard Ja Morant with the Memphis Grizzlies appears to be approaching an end as the star looks to move on from the franchise.
Morant has had a tough season as he’s averaging some of the lowest stats of his NBA career.
Moreover, Morant was suspended for a single game after openly expressing frustration toward the coaching staff.
With a sour relationship continuing to get worse, NBA reporter Rachel Nichols revealed that Morant has a preferred destination in mind: the Miami Heat.
‘I know he wants to go down there from what I heard,’ she said on her Open Floor podcast.
Reports indicate that the Heat believe Morant can be a long-term piece to build a team around.
Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant reportedly wants to be traded to the Miami Heat
Morant, meanwhile, could benefit from Miami’s well-established ‘Heat Culture’ after the multiple off-the-court controversies he’s been at the center of.
In March 2023, the former Murray State star was first seen waving a gun during an Instagram Live captured in Shotgun Willie’s, a strip club in Glendale, Colorado, following a loss to the Denver Nuggets.
The move sparked severe backlash with the NBA initially handing down an eight-game suspension to Morant, who checked himself into a private counseling facility in Colorado.
But eight games seemingly weren’t enough to drive the message home, as 10 weeks later he was caught in yet another gun-flashing incident.

Morant has reportedly grown tired of playing in Memphis and clashed with coaches this year
This time, having not learnt his lesson, Morant was captured waving a firearm in a car on friend Davonte Pack’s Instagram Live.
Once again he faced blowback, this time bigger than ever. It was the second incident of this nature in three months and the league took its time deliberating its punishment, before NBA commissioner Adam Silver landed on a 25-game suspension.
In the years since that suspension, Morant has shown improvement and has not been in any such trouble with firearms or the league.
Morant has recently been a day-to-day player as he deals with a leg contusion.
