Mia Brookes followed her Team GB compatriot Kirsty Muir as she missed out on a medal by a whisker as she finished in fourth place in the freestyle snowboarding Big Air event on Monday evening.

The 19-year-old has twice won the World Cup in the discipline, but began her Olympic journey on Sunday with a wobble when she fell on her first jump qualifying for the final.

Brushing herself off, Brookes then posted two superlative attempts that gave her the second-highest score on the night of 89 points.

But from her first jump, the teenager looked unflappable, scoring 80.75 in her first run with a switch 1440 which placed her third in the early standings.

With a backside 1260, she picked up a solid 78.75 in her second run to perch her third in the standings, but after recording a DNF on her final run – an ambitious 1620, she was forced to settle with just missing out on the podium with a total of 159.50 points.

Instead, it was Yu Seungeun who claimed bronze with 171 points, Zoi Sadowski Synnott taking silver on 172.25 points and Kokomo Murase claiming a magnificent 179 points to crown her champion.

Mia Brookes was unable to pull off her final jump as she narrowly missed out on a medal

Brookes is believed to have struggled with nerves at these Games, and admitted to Daily Mail Sport that she blocked them out with a heavy metal soundtrack of Metallica, Megadeath, and Pantera pulsing through her headphones.

Earlier on Monday, Team GB experienced their first disappointment on the slopes as Muir was edged out of the podium spots in the freestyle skiing slopestyle.

The Scot cut a desolate figure after finishing behind two-time Olympic champion Mathilde Gremaud, and Chinese-American superstar Eileen Gu, with Canada’s Megan Oldham claiming bronze.
