Mohamed Salah, a figure synonymous with Liverpool’s golden era, is poised to play his final game at Anfield this Sunday, drawing a close to an extraordinary, trophy-laden chapter.
The Egypt international’s departure marks the end of a period where he cemented his status as one of the Premier League’s most formidable forwards.
His prolificacy is etched into the league’s history books; Salah stands as the Premier League’s fourth-highest goalscorer of all time with 193 goals, a tally surpassed only by Alan Shearer, Harry Kane, and Wayne Rooney.
His consistent brilliance is further underscored by a record-equalling four Premier League Golden Boots, a feat he shares with Thierry Henry. Across all competitions, Salah has netted an astonishing 257 goals in 441 appearances for the Reds.
As the curtain prepares to fall on his remarkable tenure, we revisit five of his most memorable strikes that encapsulate his genius and enduring impact.
Manchester City, October 2021
This goal was as much about the quality of the opposition as the execution itself.
Receiving the ball with his back to goal just outside the penalty area, Salah masterfully held off and turned Joao Cancelo, before dragging it past Bernardo Silva, leaving the midfielder on his backside.
He then feigned to cut inside before checking back to wrong-foot Aymeric Laporte, finally drilling a rare right-footed finish across Ederson, off the far post and in.
Chelsea, April 2019
Virgil van Dijk’s long crossfield ball was killed dead by Salah’s exquisite first touch.
Two further touches – one with the outside of his left foot, the other with his right – saw him glide past Emerson to create space.
With Jorginho closing him down, he unleashed an arrow-straight left-footed strike into the top corner from 25 yards.
Arsenal, August 2017
A classic demonstration of the threat Salah posed on the counter-attack.
The ball was cleared from an Arsenal corner, and the Egyptian swiftly closed down Hector Bellerin, nodding the ball past the defender’s attempted high-footed clearance.
With two-thirds of the pitch to run into, Salah raced clear, pursued in vain by Bellerin and Francis Coquelin, to slot past Petr Cech.
Manchester United, January 2020
This goal was memorable for its symbolism as much as Salah’s individual quality.
Alisson Becker’s long kick after claiming a United corner picked out Salah on his own on the halfway line, with the visitors all upfield looking for an equaliser.
As he advanced into United’s half, Dan James sprinted back, but Salah held him off to slot past David de Gea.
Amazingly, Alisson was the first on the spot to congratulate his team-mate as the Kop broke into a chorus of “We’re going to win the league”.
RB Salzburg, December 2019
Perhaps not one of Salah’s most spectacular goals, but certainly one of his most precise.
Jordan Henderson’s ball into the inside-left channel posed a problem for Jerome Onguene who, under pressure from the Liverpool forward, could only tamely head the ball back towards his own penalty area.
Goalkeeper Cican Stankovic inadvisably came to the corner of his box, only for Salah to knock it past him, leaving himself with an insanely tight angle four yards from the byline on his weaker right foot.
Somehow, while still at full pelt, he rolled a shot which almost brushed the near post before nestling in the side-netting at the far post. “Sensational,” said Jurgen Klopp.
