Toronto Blue Jays star Dylan Cease produced a viral moment on Wednesday after mistakenly posing for a selfie with a team staffer as she tried to point him in the direction of an interview.
Cease, 30, had just worked eight no-hit innings against the San Francisco Giants before allowing a single to Heliot Ramos leading off the ninth in a 10-0 win for the Blue Jays when the hilarious mix-up occurred.
As he went to make his way to the locker room, the Toronto staffer approached him for a side-hug with her phone in hand, before he smiled while appearing to pose for a photo.
However, the team member instead pointed to a TV crew who were waiting to carry out an interview with him to the side of the field.
Cease’s misunderstanding left fans in stitches online, with many also heaping praise on him for going to take the selfie despite falling agonizingly short of his second career no-hitter.
‘Dying at Cease thinking staff wanted a selfie or something but she was just trying to point him to the interview,’ one user wrote on X.

Another posted: ‘he was going through it but was still gonna pose for a fan selfie omg adorable man’.
A third put: ‘Shows you the kind of person he is reacting like that so quick.’
‘Good for him just being a good dude,’ said a fourth.
While another joked: ‘she should [have] taken the picture’.
Cease (6-4) was pulled after Ramos’ clean line-drive single to center and got a standing ovation from the San Francisco crowd.
The All-Star right-hander threw a career-high 118 pitches, 81 for strikes. Former Giants reliever Tyler Rogers got the final three outs on four pitches.
He struck out 11 to increase his American League-leading total to 148.
