The Minnesota Vikings are re-signing veteran NFL quarterback Carson Wentz on a one-year contract.
It means head coach Kevin O’Connell now has three signal callers to work with after they also signed free agent Kyler Murray earlier this offseason.
Murray and Wentz will be battling for game time with existing Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who has struggled to establish himself in the NFL after being drafted out of Michigan in 2024.
The 33-year-old Wentz, who has also played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs, was with the Vikings last season and started five games because of injuries to McCarthy.
There was hope he could salvage their slim playoff chances but a shoulder injury saw him ruled out towards the end of the season and they missed out on the postseason entirely.
Wentz was part of the Eagles team that won the Super Bowl in the 2017 season. But he didn’t play in the game against the New England Patriots due to injury, with Nick Foles guiding them to victory instead.
More to follow.
