The Dearborn Police Department in Michigan launched a new Aggressive Driving Unit using three all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E patrol vehicles to target reckless motorists, city officials announced Monday.

The low-profile electric vehicles, which made their public debut during Dearborn’s annual Memorial Day Parade, are intended to blend into everyday traffic.

According to a department news release, the specialized unit will focus on intercepting drivers who engage in speeding, tailgating, distracted driving and other hazardous violations that frequently lead to collisions.

The initiative follows ongoing community feedback regarding road safety. Dearborn police officers issued more than 33,000 traffic citations in 2025 as part of a broader citywide campaign to decrease traffic-related injuries and fatalities.

“I heard and listened to the residents of Dearborn who complained about poor driving behaviors throughout the city,” Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin said in a statement. “We are taking further action by implementing this new unit.”

Local authorities stated that traffic safety remains a primary concern for residents and a top operational priority for law enforcement.

“The Aggressive Driving Unit will strictly enforce hazardous moving violations throughout the city,” Shahin said. “The addition of the three Mustang Mach-E vehicles will enable officers to operate in a more discreet manner to identify dangerous traffic violators and enforce traffic laws.”

The new unmarked unit represents the latest phase of Dearborn’s multi-pronged traffic strategy, which combines strict law enforcement, public education and roadway engineering to foster safer driving habits.

In conjunction with the deployment, the department reminded motorists to comply with speed limits, eliminate behind-the-wheel distractions and share local roadways responsibly.
