Former MLB great and broadcast analyst for the New York Mets Keith Hernandez was caught by the hot mic as he took a brutal swipe at the team before returning from commercial.
On Wednesday, the Mets faced the Miami Marlins at loanDepot Park to conclude a season-opening round trip that has left them with a 2-3 record.
Although the Metropolitans eventually won the game, 6-5, it took them eleven long innings to do so and the broadcast team was just as frustrated as the fans and players.
As the disappointment spilled over during commercial breaks, Awful Announcing’s X page flagged an audio clip before the 11th inning with the score deadlocked at 4-4. This happened before the Mets squandered a no-out, runners-at-the-corners rally in the top of the tenth.
Hernandez could be heard saying ‘P***-poor hitting!’ just seconds before the SportsNet New York broadcast returned from a break.
Luckily, the Mets left South Florida with an even record after rallying with a clutch walk and a key infield grounder.
Keith Hernandez scoffed at the New York Mets’ ‘p***-poor hitting’ against the Marlins

It took the Mets 11 innings to scrape through the Marlins and improve their record to 3-3
Pete Alonso’s heroics secured the rubber match victory for New York. Alonso blasted a tying three-run homer before the team pushed across two runs in the 11th inning.
‘There’s a lot of guys here from last year and we know how to do that,’ Alonso said. ‘This is a talented bunch. We never think we’re out of any game. That’s just a testament to every single one of these guys.’
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza acknowledged the team’s poor start while addressing the ‘crazy game.’
‘We didn’t play well early. I am just glad we found a way to get the job done and won the series and now we get to go home and play in front of our fans.’
The Mets will return home to host the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday at Citi Field.
