Channel Seven sports presenter Mel McLaughlin has revealed she has had half a lung removed due to her cancer battle as she made an emotional post while watching Australia beat Turkey at the World Cup.

The well-known figure, who revealed she was battling stage two lung cancer in December 2025, made the revelation in the bio of her Instagram account.

‘It’s a game of two halves. Credit to the boys. 1.5 lungs,’ her bio reads.

McLaughlin, 46, made her health battle public late last year as she underwent surgery on her left lung.

The popular media personality is currently overseas in the Americas covering the 2026 FIFA World Cup for Channel Seven.

She made an emotional post after the Socceroos stunned the sport by beating Turkey in Vancouver.

‘It’s too much,’ McLaughlin wrote below a picture showing her at the Socceroos match.

When she made the public revelation about contracting the illness late last year, she also explained that lung cancer claimed her sister’s life a decade ago.

The veteran presenter had a malignant tumour removed from her lung, along with a large section of the organ, earlier in 2025.

McLaughlin missed several months of TV presenting as a result, and only returned to Aussie screens in April.

The 46-year-old also took to social media straight after her first appearance back on screen to provide an update to her fans.

‘Remembered how to read and didn’t run out of breath – I’ll take that for now,’ she wrote.

‘My wonderful, beautiful, dysfunctional work family held my hand and dealt with my nerves and anxiety. Poor kids having to put up with me!

‘Extremely overwhelmed and touched by all of the messages, and sharing of so many of your own stories.’
