New Lean apprenticeship for manufacturers

MEGA is preparing to launch its first Lean Manufacturing Apprenticeship to help manufacturing and engineering businesses improve productivity and develop continuous improvement skills.

The Level 2 apprenticeship will begin in September 2026. It has been developed in response to employer demand and focuses on practical learning in real manufacturing environments.

The 12-month programme combines workplace learning with off-site training at the new MEGA Lean Learning Factory, where apprentices will attend one day a week and learn how to

  • identify and reduce waste in processes
  • improve efficiency and productivity
  • support product quality and consistency
  • add value from day one

The apprenticeship is suitable for both existing staff and new entrants, offering a structured route to developing Lean capability across manufacturing and engineering businesses.

MEGA is inviting employers to join the first pilot cohort as founding partners and help shape the programme. Register your interest in taking part.

MEGA is an industry-led collaborative network working to support the manufacturing and engineering sector and to promote it as a source of high-value, long-term jobs. Membership is open to all advanced manufacturing and engineering companies in the Mid Ulster region.

Find out more about the MEGA network.
