Whether you see him as Archie’s grandson, Peyton’s oldest child, Eli’s nephew or Arch’s cousin, Marshall Manning is facing some big expectations under center.
So even though he’s just a 15-year-old freshman at Chattanooga’s Baylor School, it was nonetheless newsworthy when his coach revealed that Marshall won’t be starting this fall.
‘Marshall Manning is our backup quarterback this year,’ Baylor head coach Erik Kimrey told the ‘Villamarzos Voice’ podcast. ‘He’ll be a freshman. So, we’re excited about him.’
For what it’s worth, Peyton did not start at New Orleans’ Isidore Newman as a freshman and was instead relegated to third-string status.
And while both Eli and Arch entered their freshman seasons as starters at Isidore Newman, they weren’t competing with Keegan Croucher, Baylor School’s rising quarterback who ranks among the top recruits at the position. In fact, Croucher is already committed to SEC powerhouse Ole Miss, where Archie and Eli once starred for the Rebels.
In case it isn’t already obvious, the Baylor School has one of the top programs in Tennessee.

The football team has won three state titles, with the most recent coming last year when Marshall was still an eighth-grade student at the prestigious boarding school.
Its facilities are so well regarded that Spain’s national soccer team made the Baylor School its temporary practice ground at the onset of the World Cup last month.
Prior to enrolling at Baylor, Marshall had grown up in the Denver area, where his father Peyton retired as a member of the Broncos in 2016.
Unless he reclassifies, Marshall is expected to be a member of the Class of 2030, which gives major college programs a few more years to evaluate him.
Marshall would be the sixth Manning man to draw interest from top college football programs.

Archie played at Ole Miss until 1970, when he began his 13-year NFL career. Peyton and Eli starred at Tennessee and Ole Miss, respectively, before each winning a pair of Super Bowls as pros. And then there is Arch, currently the starting quarterback at Texas, and his father Cooper, the eldest of the Manning brothers and a former Ole Miss receiver.
But perhaps no member of the Manning family has faced more expectations than young Marshall, who has been a social media sensation since he was filmed throwing passes to NFL Pro Bowl stars as a 13-year-old.
‘I’ve seen enough,’ one Indianapolis Colts fan joked online in 2025. ‘Draft him.’
‘Tank for 15 years,’ another added on X. ‘I don’t care.’
