Manchester City forward Mary Fowler is set for an extended spell on the sidelines after rupturing her anterior cruciate knee ligament.
The Australia international sustained the injury during Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester United.
The 22-year-old is almost certain to miss the rest of the Women’s Super League season and Australia’s friendlies against Argentina at the end of next month.
City say she will remain under the care of the club’s medical team as she begins her rehabilitation.
It is the latest injury blow for City, who are guaranteed to end the season without a trophy following Sunday’s cup defeat.
Alex Greenwood, Lauren Hemp and Risa Shimizu are all out with long-term knee injuries, while forwards Vivianne Miedema and Khadija Shaw, are sidelined with hamstring injuries.
Laura Blindkilde Brown, Ayaka Yamashita Aoba Fujino, Jill Roord and Rebecca Knaak are also on the injury list.
