Manchester United are weighing up a shock swoop for Aaron Ramsdale as they look to fix their goalkeeping crisis, according to a new report.
Andre Onana was dropped for United’s heavy defeat by Newcastle on Sunday but his rarely-used deputy Altay Bayindir was criticised for his shaky stand-in performance.
Bayindir was also adjudged to have been at fault for the Magpies’ fourth goal after his attempted ball into midfield was intercepted, allowing Bruno Guimaraes to score.
That has handed Ruben Amorim another headache, and The Sun have claimed the club are eyeing up Southampton stopper Ramsdale as a surprise solution.
The report states that signing a new goalkeeper has become a pressing issue for United although they may face competition from West Ham this summer.
Ramsdale, formerly of Arsenal and Bournemouth, could move on from St Mary’s at the end of the season, having experienced the third relegation of his career.

Andre Onana is under mounting scrutiny after his two errors in the 2-2 draw with Lyon
Altay Bayindir was criticised for a shaky stand-in performance in the heavy loss at Newcastle
The Sun claim that United have watched him in action in recent games and believe his Premier League experience could aid their leaky defence.
Keen to remain in contention for Thomas Tuchel’s England squad, Ramsdale is believed to prefer to stay in the top-flight should he leave.
Onana remains the No 1 at Old Trafford for now but he is under mounting scrutiny after an error-strewn display in the 2-2 draw with Lyon in the Europa League.
Despite being blamed for both goals, including Rayan Cherki’s last-gasp equaliser, the 29-year-old is likely to be recalled for Thursday’s decisive return leg.
He was left out of the squad entirely for the trip to Tyneside with Amorim keen to allow him to clear his head after a chastening night in France.
In the build-up to the draw, Nemanja Matic branded Onana one of the worst keepers in United’s history after he said the Red Devils were ‘way better’ than the French side.
Bayindir returned to the squad in the 1-0 loss at Nottingham Forest earlier this month after a nine-game absence and has made just eight appearances in two seasons.
All seven of his previous outings came in domestic cup competitions and the Europa League and his future at the club is uncertain beyond the summer after his late mistake at Newcastle, which Roy Keane lambasted as ‘basic’.
‘Of course (he was at fault). You go back to the decision-making. I’m not even sure what the big benefit (would be). It’s too risky,’ Keane said on Sky Sports.
