A 74-year-old man in Florida was arrested after he allegedly drove his SUV at another man during a fight over a Publix grocery store parking space.
The alleged victim fired a single shot from a handgun at the man in self defense after the pair became embroiled in an argument over the grocery store parking space, according to law enforcement.
No one was injured in the incident, which unfolded Friday afternoon in the parking lot of a Publix in Largo, Tampa Bay, Florida.
Richard Clevenstine, 74, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, according to IONTB.
At around 1 p.m., Clevenstine allegedly drove his Kia Soul intentionally in the direction of the victim in an apparent effort to either hit him or scare him. The victim believed his life was in danger and fired a single shot from a pistol into the hood of Cleventine’s SUV, police said.
The victim then dialed 911.
Largo police said they reviewed footage from multiple cameras that captured the incident.
Clevenstine reportedly admitted to police that he drove his vehicle within approximately six to eight inches of the victim.
Based on the footage collected and Clevenstine’s account, police determined the victim was forced to evade the vehicle to avoid being hit.
Clevenstine was charged with aggravated assault rather than assault because he caused the victim to fear for his life, police said.
On July 10, Clevenstine was booked into the Pinellas County Jail, but was released on bond on Sunday, according to Tampa Bay 10 News.
