Drivers have been warned of major delays on the M62 after a lorry crash which caused fuel to leak onto the road.
The vehicle hit the railings on a bridge on the A49 Newton Road, in Warrington, which caused the fuel to spill over the motorway.
The M62 has been closed in both direction within junction nine as a result and could be shut for several hours, Cheshire Police said. The junction eight eastbound entry slip road has also been closed.
A National Highways spokesman said traffic is being diverted onto exit and entry slip roads, with delays of up to an hour expected.
A police spokeswoman said there were no reports of injuries after the lorry crashed earlier.
National Highways said its service providers are on scene to install a new barrier.
The agency is also working to repair the damage caused by the fuel spill but has not given an estimate for how long it will take.
A spokesman said there are delays of 60 mins on the eastbound section on the M62, while westbound there are delays of 20 mins, with congestion building for miles in both directions.
