Opportunity for visual artists to engage with their counterparts in France

Professional visual artists based in Northern Ireland are invited to apply for the Magnetic international residency programme, offering a two to three month placement in France.

The residency is open to artists who have already exhibited work in recognised professional settings. Participants will receive

  • a monthly fee of £2,100
  • curatorial mentoring and support
  • a tailored residency programme developed with host organisations
  • opportunities to build international networks
  • accommodation and access to a workspace

Successful applicants will take part in a residency at Frac Grand Large in Dunkirk, in the Hauts-de-France region. In return, a France-based artist will complete a residency at Flax Art Studios in Belfast.

Applications close at midnight on Tuesday 2 June 2026.

For more information and applications, visit the Fluxus Art Projects website.

About the programme

The Magnetic residency programme, now in its fifth year, supports professional development and international exchange between the UK and France. It brings together ten partner organisations, five in France and five in the UK, to deliver a series of paired artist residencies. Each residency links a French region with a UK nation.

The initiative is backed by a range of cultural bodies, including the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, the British Council, Arts Council England, Creative Scotland, Arts Council of Wales/Wales Arts International, the French Institute in the UK, and the French Ministry of Culture.
