Seven seasons after he won a national championship at Louisiana State University (LSU), football coach Ed Orgeron is making a return to Baton Rouge.
Orgeron is making a return to the program on the staff of head coach Lane Kiffin as a special assistant to recruiting and defense, the school announced on Wednesday night.
Orgeron is said to have a ‘decades-long relationship with Kiffin’ which has allowed him to seek this opportunity.
‘I’m excited to bring Coach Orgeron back to LSU,’ Kiffin said in a statement released on the LSU athletics website.
‘He brings us tremendous value with his ability to recruit elite players nationally, but especially the impact he can have for us recruiting the great state of Louisiana.
‘Coach O understands my expectations and commitment to being a championship program. I look forward to seeing him with recruits and his intensity working with our defensive players.’
Previously, the Louisiana native led LSU to the 2019 national championship with one of the greatest teams assembled in college football history.
