Louis Rees-Zammit told Bristol and Wales fans there is still more to come from him as he targets becoming one of the world’s best players.

Rees-Zammit returned to rugby at the start of this season after a stint playing American Football in the USA with Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars.

He has impressed in his first season back in the 15-a-side game but believes there is still significant improvement he can make.

‘I’m only 25. I wouldn’t say I’ve hit my prime yet,’ Rees-Zammit said.

‘I’m still learning off my coaches and team-mates every day and trying to get better in training – just whatever it takes to become one of the best players in the world.

‘That is my goal. I’m going to continue to do it. I’m only young.’

Rees-Zammit was a try machine with Gloucester and Wales prior to his NFL switch, playing on the wing for both club and country.

Now, he has switched to full-back in both a Bristol and Wales shirt.

He was an ever-present for Wales during the Six Nations as they claimed their first Championship win since 2023 by beating Italy.

On Saturday, Rees-Zammit will return to Cardiff’s Principality Stadium with Bristol as they take on struggling Harlequins who have won just two PREM Rugby games this season.

‘I’m feeling a lot sharper now. It’s obviously tough when you’re out of the sport for two years. There’s a rusty phase,’ Rees-Zammit said.

‘We’ve got an unbelievable team. It (Bristol) is the perfect place for me.

‘I’m really enjoying my time here so far. I’m excited to see what we can do in the second-half of the season.’

Play-off semi-finalists last season, Bristol have designs on another top-four finish and a title bid.

Wales, meanwhile, ended their Six Nations much improved, the culmination of promising performances against Scotland and Ireland being their win over Italy.

‘We knew those first two games weren’t up to a standard of international rugby, but that leant nicely into turning things around,’ Rees-Zammit said.

‘To get that win under our belt in the final game was huge. The performances were getting better and better. It leads nicely into the summer.’
