Respected sports broadcaster Steve Raymond has passed away aged 81 after a long and distinguished career.

The long-time media personality enjoyed a career spanning multiple decades, during which he featured on Nine’s flagship A Current Affair program.

Raymond first started in the 1960s at Sydney radio stations 2GB and 2SM, before moving to Channel 10 as a reporter and presenter.

He enjoyed success in multiple ways, and won Walkley Awards and Logies.

Earlier in his career, he joined A Current Affair and teamed up with renowned journalism trailblazer Mike Willesee.

Raymond then hosted a number of shows on Channel 10, including his own program, The Steve Raymond Show.

Steve Raymond’s nephew, former Fox Sports commentator Andy Raymond, has paid tribute to the well-known media figure.

‘He was a very good news man who was instrumental in the birth of 2WS,’ Andy told TV Tonight.

‘One of his great loves was the speedway, dating back to the Sydney Showground through Liverpool Speedway and Parramatta.

‘(He was) a complete professional who respected everyone and treated everyone equally.’

Raymond is survived by his wife and daughter.
