Krispy Kreme fans may be in for a sweet surprise after the donut chain agreed to a $1.6 million settlement as part of a class-action lawsuit.
Customers may be eligible to receive $3,500 as part of the settlement, but the deadline to file a claim — June 22 — is fast approaching.
Hackers may have stolen customers’ private information in a security breach on November 29, 2024, according to the suit. The hackers were able to access sensitive information, including the names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers and financial information of some Krispy Kreme customers.
The donut chain, which has stores all across the U.S., has denied any wrongdoing but has agreed to the $1.6 million settlement.
According to the settlement website, eligible class members are U.S. residents who received a notice that their personal information may have been impacted in the data breach.
Without providing documentation, class members can receive a cash payment of $75.
However, after submitting documentation, such as receipts, emails or other evidence showing losses related to fraud or identity theft, customers can receive up to $3,500.
All class members are also entitled to receive one year of free credit monitoring to help track any suspicious activity or signs of identity theft. The settlement website says class members should receive an activation code on their postcard notice.
A claim must be filed by June 22 for eligible customers. Meanwhile, the deadline to exclude oneself from the settlement or object to it is June 6.
Class members can submit a claim on the Krispy Kreme settlement website or mail it to the settlement administrator. Claim forms are also available by calling (877) 239-1879.
