King Charles and Queen Camilla take in the memorial alongside former New York City mayor

The royals viewed the 9/11 Memorial on Tuesday morning alongside former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg.

The pair could be seen by the memorial pools, which feature water cascading into the ground. There, they laid a bouquet of white flowers.

Bloomberg, who was mayor from 2002 to 2013, is the chairman of the National September 11 Memorial.

Macron shares playful response to King Charles’ joke about America speaking French

French President Emmanuel Macron shared a playful response to a joke King Charles III made during his White House dinner with President Donald Trump.

“You recently stated, Mr. President, that without the United States, European countries would speak German. Dare I say that without us, you would speak French?” the monarch joked, drawing chuckles from the audience.

The quip later got the attention of Macron, who jokingly chimed in on X, writing, “That would be chic!”

“If ever…See you at the Francophonie Summit,” the Élysée Palace added.

Police should interview Andrew again, says Gordon Brown

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor should be re-interviewed by police over his use of public funds while he was UK trade envoy, former prime minister Gordon Brown has said.

Mr Brown told The New Statesman that the former Duke of York was interviewed at his request during his time in government over the “unacceptable costs he was incurring”.

Mr Brown said he should also be investigated over alleged trafficking into the UK by paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.

“The British authorities should now re-interview Andrew, not just over possible breaches of the Official Secrets Act, but over his use of public funds, and especially over incidents in which women allegedly brought to him at Sandringham, Buckingham Palace, Windsor and at other locations, may have been trafficked into the country by Epstein,” he said.

Explaining King Charles’ 1814 White House ‘redevelopment’ joke

King Charles drew laughs during an historic state dinner at the White House on Tuesday as he poked at the turbulent shared history of the UK and the United States.

The monarch noted Donald Trump’s controversial designs for a ballroom in the East Wing and reminded the audience that the British had, too, attempted a “real estate development of the White House in 1814”, referencing the burning of much of the capital by the British forces.

Here’s what happened when Britain burned the White House during the war of 1812.

Recap: King Charles to visit New York to commemorate 9/11 victims

King Charles and his wife Queen Camilla are expected to commemorate the victims of the 9/11 attacks in New York on Wednesday, on the third day of their US visit.

Charles and Camilla will begin their day in New York with a ceremony at the 9/11 memorial in lower Manhattan, where the twin towers of the World Trade Center were destroyed in 2001.

The king is expected to meet mayor Zohran Mamdani at the ceremony.

He will later head to Harlem to visit a grassroots community organisation that has created an urban farming initiative in an effort to combat food insecurity, according to local media.

Camilla, meanwhile, will celebrate the 100th birthday of A.A. Milne’s character Winnie the Pooh on behalf of her charity, The Queen’s Reading Room.

The tour follows an eventful day of careful symbology and gesturing amid a period of strained relations between Washington and London.

In remarks likely to exacerbate growing animosity from the Trump administration towards Downing Street, Sir Christian Turner also said it was “extraordinary” that the Jeffrey Epstein scandal had failed to bring down any notable figures in the US.

The comments will also bring discomfort to King Charles, who is currently visiting the White House where he was welcomed in an address by Donald Trump, who hailed the “cherished bond” between the countries.
