Kevin Sinfield will embark on his seventh and final gruelling running challenge this September, aiming to raise further funds for motor neurone disease (MND) charities.

The rugby league legend’s efforts are a poignant tribute to his former Leeds Rhinos teammate Rob Burrow, who tragically passed away in 2024 after a four-and-a-half-year battle with the disease.

Dubbed ‘7 in 7: The Grand Finale’, Sinfield’s latest endeavour will see him attempt an ultra marathon daily for seven consecutive days.

Kicking off at Hull KR on 28 September, he will visit all 12 English Betfred Super League grounds, culminating on the pitch at Old Trafford before the Super League Grand Final.

Each day will involve completing 7km blocks within an hour. The popular ‘Extra Mile’ event also returns, allowing the 45-year-old to run a mile alongside individuals affected by MND.

Sinfield has already amassed over £11m for the MND community. Speaking to BBC Breakfast, he acknowledged the collective effort: “Our team have done a wonderful job. I couldn’t have done any of it without them, they are so unselfish in the way they’ve gone about this.

“We couldn’t have done this on our own. The money has gone a long way and we’re getting closer and closer but we’ve got to keep pushing, we’ve got to try and find a cure.”

The challenging route begins on day one at Craven Park, moving to Hull FC’s MKM Stadium before concluding in York. Day two will see visits to newly-promoted York Knights, passing York Minster and York Racecourse.

Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity grounds are on day three, alongside a route near Burrow’s Pontefract home. Day four includes Leeds’ Headingley, Bradford Bulls’ Odsal, and Huddersfield Giants’ Accu Stadium.

Crossing the Pennines on day five, Sinfield will visit Wigan Warriors and Leigh Leopards on the penultimate day.

The grand finale sets off from St Helens, calls at Warrington Wolves, then proceeds to Old Trafford for the Super League Grand Final kick-off.
