President Donald Trump’s granddaughter is facing backlash after sharing a YouTube video documenting a trip to a luxury grocery store with her Secret Service detail.
The YouTube video, “I Brought My Secret Service to Erewhon,” follows 18-year-old Kai Trump as she shops at an Erewhon, which she described as “the most expensive grocery store pretty much out there.”
The teen, whose family is worth more than $6 billion, joked that she was “about to go like bankrupt” and would need to “file for bankruptcy” while browsing at the Los Angeles supermarket.
Trump bought a variety of items, including Hailey Bieber’s viral “Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie,” which sells for $21, a bottle of lavender lemonade and a package of sushi. She also picked up vitamins, a bottle of Ophora Hyper Oxygenated Water, and a tray of hot food, among other items.
When Trump left the store, she was seen getting into a black SUV with her security detail nearby. She brought the haul back to a hotel room, where she reviewed each item and revealed the grand total.
“All of this costs $233, for one grocery bag,” she said.
YouTube commenters were quick to hit out at the president’s granddaughter, suggesting her video was out of touch.
One YouTube user commented: “Title might be the most tone deaf thing I’ve ever read.”
“Probably one of the most out of touch video titles ever,” another user wrote.
The video also caught the attention of users on X, with some criticizing her video in light of the ongoing conflict with Iran.
“Your kids might get drafted to fight in Iran, while the Trump family uses your tax dollars to shop premium, organic, gluten free cake,” the Lincoln Project wrote on X.
“While American service members die in her grandfather’s war, Kai Trump brags about making her taxpayer-funded Secret Service follow her around while she shops,” user Molly Ploofkins posted.
Democratic strategist Mike Nellis called her video a “modern-day ‘let them eat cake’ moment.”
Trump, the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and Vanessa Trump, posts regularly on her YouTube channel, which has garnered more than 1.4 million subscribers. She’s expected to head to the University of Miami later this year to play for the school’s golf team.
The teen has said she wants to become a professional golfer, and it appears she’s already started making money off her brand. A report released last year estimated that she’s secured multiple name, image and likeness deals totaling more than $1 million.
The Independent has contacted Kai Trump for comment.
