It wasn’t all glamorous.
Josh Duhamel said being with “massive star” Fergie and living in her “shadow” at the height of her career caused a major shift in his life.
“It was a big adjustment for me, if I’m being honest,” the actor explained on Monday’s episode of “The Megyn Kelly Show.”
Host Megyn Kelly then asked Duhamel if he and the “Glamorous” singer ever had an issue with “whose star [was] bigger” at the time.
“Yeah, probably,” Duhamel admitted. “It’s probably my own ego more than anything. I don’t think it bugged her as much as it probably did me. But she was a massive star at the time!”
The “Transformers” star confessed that it felt like he was “in [Fergie’s] shadow a lot of the time.”
The pop star, whose real name is Stacy Ann Ferguson, and Duhamel married in 2009 before welcoming their son Axl in 2013. The exes called it quits in 2017 before officially divorcing in 2019.
The same year that Fergie and Duhamel tied the knot, the Black Eyed Peas member was No. 1 on the Billboard charts with “Boom Boom Pow” and “I Gotta Feeling.”
Fergie has also won eight Grammys throughout her career, taking home three of those during her marriage to Duhamel.
The “Ransom Canyon” star shared that, these days, he and Fergie, 50, “have a great relationship” and that the hitmaker is “a very normal person at the end of the day.”
“We parent our son, Axl. She’s a great mom,” he gushed. “I’m extremely happily married now to my wife, Audra [Mari]. We have a beautiful son [Shepherd, 2,] and a little girl on the way. [Audra and Fergie] have a great relationship, which is what I really care about.”
“I just want peace and I don’t want any in-fighting between anybody,” he noted.” They’ve been very civil, thankfully, in the way they approach this thing. … It could be ugly but, thankfully, it’s not.”
Earlier this month, Fergie gushed over the model, expecting baby No. 2.
“Welcome the cuteness! 💖💖” she commented on Mari’s Instagram bump debut
Fergie also “liked” the black-and-white social media upload, which was captioned, “Adding a little girl to our story. We can’t wait to meet you.”
However, this isn’t the first time Duhmael has opened up about his past relationship in recent weeks.
While on “The Skinny Confidential” podcast on March 2, the former soap star gave insight into what went wrong with him and Fergie.
“We’re just very different,” he expressed. “She and I just have different views of the world, and that’s OK.”
Duhamel clarified that he has “no regrets about” his failed marriage, adding: “We have a beautiful son.”
