Lessons in Lifestyle

Jelly Roll has had a setback in his weight loss journey that has seen him lose 275 pounds in three years.

In a recent YouTube video, the 41-year-old singer confessed that he hadn’t been on track with his diet since the 2025 holiday season.

“Kind of got off the rails, and I broke my collarbone a few days before Christmas,” he explained. “I had to quit running, quit walking, quit exercising for some extended period of time.

“I said all that to say, I have, to some degree, lost my way,” Jelly Roll continued. “I’m still about 40 or 50 pounds, maybe 60, [away from my goal]. I don’t know. I haven’t weighed in. I’ve been avoiding the scale. I’m afraid to see what the scale is going to say.”

However, Jelly Roll decided to step on the scale April 10, as documented in his YouTube video. He revealed that he weighed 276.2 pounds — a 12-pound gain.

He detailed his new goals in the vlog, saying that he wants to train for the New York City Marathon in November and lose his last 40 to 50 pounds.

“I eventually want to cut my skin, and I eventually want to be on the cover of something crazy, like GQ or Rolling Stone with my shirt off,” the “Wild Ones” singer said. “I know it’s getting real silly now, but I don’t know. I just believe there’s this story that a guy can go from 560 pounds to a shirt off picture. It’s absurd.”

During a January interview with Men’s Health, Jelly Roll first revealed that he’d lost 275 pounds. He shared the early steps he took to reach that goal, including looking for a therapist to help treat his “food addiction” in the same way an alcohol or drug addiction would be treated.

“Even before I got into getting my blood work done, I went and got mental health therapy about my overeating,” he told the publication. “I started treating my food addiction like what it was: an addiction.”

After working with advisors on his nutrition — including a medical team at Ways2Well, and chef and sports nutritionist, Ian Larios — he lost weight through eating whole foods and moving his body.

Jelly Roll has given multiple updates about his fitness journey over the last two years, sharing on Pat McAfee’s Big Night AHT show in April 2025 that he’d gone from 540 pounds to 357 pounds. In October 2024, he said he lost 100 pounds.
