Two-way NFL rookie sensation Travis Hunter will see action on both sides of the football when he makes his debut for the Jacksonville Jaguars against the visiting Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Jacksonville will use Hunter as an every-down receiver, while restricting him to situational duties as a cornerback.
Jags head coach Liam Coen had been coy about his intentions with Hunter, who won the Heisman at Colorado while dazzling fans across the country on offense and defense.
‘We’re going to have to figure it out,’ Coen said on Friday. ‘We’re going to have to all be flexible. We’ll come up with that plan over the next 24 hours in terms like, alright, what are the exact maybe numbers we want to hit on both sides or usage?’
It’s been a busy year for Hunter, who has gotten married and become a father since being taken second overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Jacksonville did pay a heft price, trading the fifth-overall pick, second- and fourth-round selections, as well as the team’s first rounder in 2026 for the right to move up and take Hunter.
There had been considerable debate among fans about the best way to use Travis Hunter

In preseason games and in training camp, Hunter saw extensive time in the slot in three-receiver sets alongside Brian Thomas Jr. and Dyami Brown.
Typically in nickel defense situations, which rely on five defensive backs, Hunter has played as an outside cornerback with Jourdan Lewis moving inside to defend slot receivers.
‘I don´t know what they´re going to do with him,’ Panthers coach Dave Canales said this week. ‘Is he going to return punts for them?’
Hunter recently revealed the birth of his first son with wife, Leanna Lenee, on YouTube.
‘Dear Son,’ the receiver and cornerback captioned the video. ‘We love you. Love, Mom and Dad.’
