Liverpool will hope to avoid a cataclysmic turn of events to keep focus on the emotional farewells of Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson as they face Brentford on the final day of the season.

The Reds have failed to inspire during a resoundingly unsuccessful Premier League title defence this season but will nevertheless qualify for the Champions League by avoiding defeat to the Bees.

Losing, however, would open them up to the possibility of being pipped to fifth by Bournemouth, who need to win and recover a six-goal-difference deficit to pull off such an astounding feat.

Arne Slot will be eager to avoid such an embarrassing outcome but with negative fan sentiment towards the Dutchman reaching its peak, he may find it hard to get the Anfield faithful on his side.

This will especially be the case if he does not start the club’s third highest all-time record goalscorer Salah on his goodbye outing, who seemed to fire shots at his manager in a barbed social media post following last Friday’s defeat at Aston Villa.

Here’s everything you need to know.

When is Liverpool vs Brentford?

Liverpool’s clash with Brentford is due to kick off at 4pm BST on Sunday 24 May at Anfield.

How can I watch it?

Viewers in the United Kingdom can watch the match live on Sky Sports+. A live stream will be available via Sky Go and NOW.

Team news

Slot confirmed Alisson has trained with the side and could return for the first time since April, but did not guarantee that Salah nor Robertson would start their farewell matches. Jeremie Frimpong and Alexander Isak are doubts.

There are no fresh injury concerns for Brentford boss Keith Andrews. Rico Henry remains out while former Liverpool midfielder Fabio Carvalho, along with Antoni Milambo, are rehabbing ACL injuries.

Predicted line-ups

Liverpool XI: Alisson; Jones, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Salah, Szoboszlai, Wirtz; Gakpo.

Brentford XI: Kelleher; Kayode, Ajer, Collins, Lewis-Potter; Yarmolyuk, Janelt; Ouattara, Jensen, Damsgaard; Thiago.
