Ipswich star Marcelino Nunez mocked his former club Norwich City as the Tractor Boys celebrated their promotion to the Premier League with an open top bus parade.

The Chile international had spent three years at Norwich, before joining their East Anglian rivals in a reported £10m move last summer.

Nunez had become the first player to move between the rival clubs for 24 years, with Norwich admitting the deal had been an ‘extremely difficult decision’ and that they had understood the feelings of fans.

The 26-year-old has since helped Ipswich return to the Premier League at the first time of asking as Championship runners-up.

Kieran McKenna’s side sealed promotion on the final day of the Championship season with a 3-0 victory over QPR.

The Tractor Boys celebrated with a bus parade on Monday, with Nunez taking the opportunity to twist the knife on his former club Norwich to the delight of Ipswich fans.

After chanting ‘We are going up’, Nunez then prompted surprise and laughter by shouting ‘f*** off Norwich’ into the microphone.

‘Come on Tractor Boys, we are ready for the Premier [League], let’s go.’

It is not the first time Nunez has taken to rubbing salt into Norwich wounds.

Nunez had been booed by Norwich fans after he came on as a substitute in their first derby meeting of the season in October, which Ipswich won 3-0.

He celebrated the victory by posing with a banner that poked fun at a Norwich fan’s tweet from his time at the club, which had read ‘Nunez – just build the statue already’.

Nunez also waved a corner flag around in celebration after the triumph.

The Chilean was again met by boos when he returned to Carrow Road for the first time in a 2-0 victory.

McKenna was forced to bring Nunez off just 23 minutes after he had come on as a substitute, with the Ipswich boss admitting to fears he would be sent off having picked up a booking and committed a further two fouls.

Ashley Young, who is set to retire from football, revealed during Ipswich’s parade that the squad has been doing ‘a lot of celebrating’ after clinching promotion.

‘There’s been a lot of drinking, a lot of celebrating,’ Young told Sky Sports, adding promotion was the ‘perfect way to go out’.

‘I think one word that sticks out for us is being humble.

‘A lot was said about us this season, we all bounced back, but I knew what we had in that dressing room.’

Ipswich finished second in the Championship, 11 points adrift of champions Coventry, but ended a point clear of Millwall to secure automatic promotion back to the top flight.
