Bodo/Glimt have dumped last season’s Champions League finalists Inter Milan out of the competition to sensationally book their place in the last 16, after a historical victory at the San Siro.

The Norwegian side produced one of the competition’s greatest-ever shocks at the San Siro, as strikes from Jens Petter Hauge and Hakon Evjen helped them secure a spot in the knockout stages for the very first time.

Alessandro Bastoni netted a consolation goal for Inter 14 minutes from time, but it wasn’t enough to stop Bodo from galloping to a huge 5-2 victory on aggregate.

The Champions League minnows now face a potential reunion with Manchester City in the next round, or a tie with Portuguese champions Sporting CP.

Bodo arrived at the San Siro with a two-goal advantage, following a remarkable 3-1 victory at home in the first leg, but had to weather an early Inter storm as the three-time winners pushed hard turn the tie back in their favour.

But the visitors held their ground and raced away further into the lead in the second half when Hauge, who spent two years at Inter’s rivals AC Milan, volleyed the ball into the back of the net after Ole Didrik Blomberg saw his shot saved by Yann Sommer.

Their dream night only got better 14 minutes later when Hauge turned from scorer to provider to find Evjen, who smashed the ball past Sommer to kill Inter’s hopes of a comeback stone dead.

Bastoni scrambled the ball home four minutes later, but it couldn’t stop the overwhelming favourites from crashing out of the competition, only eight months after they were beaten by PSG in last season’s final in Munich.

It is yet another remarkable result for Bodo, who only won two points from their first four games in the league phase, and seemed destined for the drop.

But they have since gone on a historic run of results, beating Juventus, 2023 winners City, Atletico Madrid – away from home – and Inter Milan twice.

This Inter side are currently 10 points clear at the top of the Serie A, making this one of the biggest upsets in Champions League history.

The two-legged victory means that Bodo have become the first Norwegian side to win a Champions League knockout tie.
