The details surrounding Hollywood actor Kevin Costner’s surprise visit to a recent AFL match have been revealed.
The ins and outs of the Bodyguard star’s experience have been revealed, including how Costner became obsessed with Aussie Rules footy’s ‘kick-to-kick’ tradition.
But the Yellowstone star’s time at the footy almost never happened.
Costner hit a hiccup when he wanted to attend the May 8 match at the Gabba between The Brisbane Lions and Carlton Blues, Tom Morris from SEN radio has revealed.
A Lions executive received a call from Costner’s team, asking for him to be put up in a corporate box.
The unusual part of their request is that it was shrouded in secrecy, with the Lions executive not made aware of the VIP’s identity at first.

Costner’s team eventually revealed the VIP was in fact the Hollywood actor, and soon after, a box happened to become available.
He didn’t watch the whole match, instead arriving at halftime after filming a comedy drama film at a nearby location.
The 71-year-old was then driven in through the loading dock so fans couldn’t catch a glimpse of him.
Costner watched the game intently, and thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle at his first game of Aussie Rules.
He said ‘the blue team looks amazing’, according to Morris’s account .
The acting superstar also took a keen interest in Sherrin footballs, marvelling at their shape, colour and texture.
Over the next week, Costner became infatuated with the idea of the kick-to-kick tradition, which fans engage in on the ground after most matches.
However, he left the stadium before the fulltime siren, so he wasn’t able to take part in the experience.

Costner was keen to attend Geelong’s match against Brisbane at the same ground the following week, and planned to take part in some kick-to-kick after the final siren.
The Hollywood actor also reportedly loved the cupcakes and shortbread he ate at the ground so much that he took some home.
Morris claimed Costner ‘doggy bagged’ the items.
The Lions won the game against Carlton by just 11 points after seeing their big lead whittled down by the Blues in the second half.
Costner is in Brisbane filming the movie Honeymoon with Harry, which also stars Jake Gyllenhaal.
Production is also set to take place in the Whitsunday Islands off the Queensland coast.
