Broadway’s biggest night is giving the cold shoulder to some of the biggest names that have made up its star-studded season.
After shows starring celebrities like Daniel Radcliffe and Megan Thee Stallion dominated the theater discourse all year, the 2026 Tony Awards nominations announced Tuesday that some major Hollywood darlings were left out of the cut for the 79th competition.
Adrien Brody, who starred in prison drama The Fear of 13, was notably missing from the nominations for best lead actor in a play. The show, which was produced by Kim Kardashian, picked up just a few nods for the technical aspects of the production in lighting and sound design.
The star-studded revival of Proof, featuring Don Cheadle and Ayo Edebiri in both of their Broadway debuts, was also shut out entirely of the nominations, despite being produced by Barack and Michelle Obama.
Keanu Reeves was ignored for his Broadway debut in the revival of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot, although his co-star Brandon J. Dirden was nominated for his featured role in the play.
Lea Michele and Aaron Tveit were both snubbed for their roles in the revival of Chess, although their castmates Nicholas Christopher, Bryce Pinkham and Hannah Cruz were not.
Jon Berenthal and Ebon Moss-Bachrach of the critically panned Dog Day Afternoon were left out, along with the play’s writer and director. However, the stage adaptation of the 1975 movie earned a few nominations for its design.
The committee also passed over the stars of the revival of Yasmina Reza’s Art: Bobby Cannavale, James Corden and Neil Patrick Harris.
More celebrities who were left out of the nominations this year include Taraji P. Henson and Cedric the Entertainer for their roles in Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, Jim Parsons for Titaníque and Cynthia Nixon for her performance in Marjorie Prime, although 96-year-old June Squibb became the oldest nominee ever for her performance in the play’s title role.
Laurie Metcalf was also snubbed for her performance in Little Bear Ridge Road. However, Metcalf was nominated in the Featured category for her performance in Death of a Salesman alongside lead actor Nathan Lane.
Although many A-listers were shut out of the nominations, plenty of other Hollywood figures are up for the biggest prizes during the glamorous ceremony.
Luke Evans earned a nomination for his lead role in Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show, alongside his co-stars Rachel Dratch and Stephanie Hsu. Alden Ehrenreich earned a well-deserved nod for his turn in the revival of Becky Shaw, and Daniel Radcliffe was recognized for his performance in Every Brilliant Thing.
The Tony Awards will air live June 7 from Radio City Hall in New York City. The ceremony will be hosted by Grammy-winning artist Pink.
