A Southern California community has been left reeling after a beloved teenage football player was shot dead in a residential neighborhood on Friday night.

Jeremy Rosales, 14, was found suffering from gunshot wounds in the street late last week, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Rosales was discovered just before 8:30 p.m. on January 16 near the intersection of Glen Canyon Lane and Burwood Avenue in Victorville – adjacent to the Mojave Vista Elementary School of Cultural Arts, where the young athlete lived with his family.

‘Deputies arrived and located Jeremy Rosales, a 14-year-old male, in the street suffering from gunshot wounds. Rosales was transported to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced deceased,’ SBSD investigators said, according to KTLA5.

On Monday, they added: ‘No arrest has been made and unfortunately, nothing else is being released. As soon as we can, we will provide an update.’

As per the outlet, the sheriff department’s Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Detail, has assumed the case.

A GoFundMe has since been organized to help the family through the difficult ordeal and noted how ‘his loss has shaken our community to its core’.

The description for the fundraiser read: ‘With heavy hearts, we share the devastating loss of Jeremy ‘Tank’ Rosales – a young man whose presence left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

‘Tank was more than a football player. He was a great kid with an infectious smile, a loyal teammate, and a brother to so many who stood beside him on the field.

‘He showed up with heart, grit, and humility, always lifting others up and embodying what it truly means to be part of a team. To those who played football with him, Tank wasn’t just a teammate, he was family’.

At the time of writing, the GoFundMe has raised $10,673 out of it’s $12,000 goal.

Rosales was a standout player for Team Elite Sports Academy and Oak Hills High School, earning a reputation as a powerhouse on the field.

‘He developed a great name in the trenches because he was such a beast,’ his coach Elliott Reyes told KTLA.

‘He worked hard in the weight room, on the field. He was your typical student athlete you would love to have in your program.’

Reyes, who coached the teen during a championship run at the academy in Hesperia, described Rosales as a ‘straight A student’ and a ‘good hardworking young man’.

‘As a coach, things like this are very tough to see. Jeremy by far…. no one deserves anything like this,’ Reyes added.

‘The community is crushed. Our coaches, parents are at a loss for words. So, I really hope whoever did this gets caught and is caught quick.’

A vigil to honor the teen is scheduled for Monday evening in Hesperia.

The Daily Mail have reached out to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
