- Jos Buttler resigned as England white-ball captain after nearly three years in role
- Vice-captain Harry Brook is expected to replace him as skipper of the T20 side
- Brook will also be named one-day skipper if Ben Stokes does not return to outfit
Harry Brook is set to be unveiled as England’s new T20 captain, with Ben Stokes still the preferred choice as one-day skipper following the resignation of Jos Buttler.
Mail Sport first revealed four weeks ago that managing director Rob Key was planning the audacious double appointment.
It would see the 26-year-old Brook – who led England’s one-day side against Australia last September – stepping up to take charge of the T20 team ahead of next year’s World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
Key also wanted to persuade Stokes out of one-day retirement.
However, England are still trying to work out whether his body can stand up to the strain in a year that includes five-Test series against India and Australia.
If they opt for caution, Brook could be take charge of the 50-over team too.

Stokes is currently on the mend after undergoing surgery on the hamstring he tore in New Zealand in December.
He is not expected to play for Durham before England’s Test summer begins with a four-day game against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge in late May.
